James Dalton has a passion for criminal law and achieving justice for his clients.

James graduated law school in 2019 after completing his honors dissertation on the ethics and regulation of undercover police practices in New Zealand. He was subsequently admitted to the bar and began practicing as a defence lawyer out of the North Shore District Court.

James joined MC in 2022 where he worked in the Crown Specialist Team for several years. During his time at the Crown, James was promoted to Senior Solicitor and conducted numerous jury trials on a large variety of cases ranging from serious assaults, sexual violence, and kidnapping. James regularly appeared in both the Auckland District Court and Auckland High Court during this time.

Upon his departure from the Crown in 2024, James started Dalton Legal as a Barrister Sole and is the Principal Lawyer of the practice.
